If you experienced high levels of stress, or even trauma, during your birth, you are not alone. Over 1 in 3 people who give birth report experiencing trauma. This can look like replaying the birth in your head and wondering if you should have/could have done something different, wishing you would have spoken up when an intervention was introduced that you didn’t feel comfortable with and/or physically still feeling trauma when re-telling your birth story. Sometimes our loved ones do not understand and try to shake off our trauma by listing all the “at least” things we should be grateful for. But guess what, you CAN be grateful AND still need to process your trauma in a real and healing way. I experienced birth trauma that persisted for the entire first year postpartum. After learning different ways that can be effective in processing and ultimately healing trauma, I decided offering this service is a must.
I offer a few different ways of processing birth trauma and usually allow the situation to unfold intuitively. For some people, simply having a non-biased listening ear is enough. For others, art or nature therapy helps with processing. The first session is 90 minutes. Each session is $60. Sessions are best done in-person; however, a virtual session can be accommodated.
*Some birth experiences are better processed with a licensed therapist. If your situation needs this, I can recommend local professionals.
